A personal halal and prayer check of the Kenya camps and hotels you're considering
You’ve narrowed your Kenya trip to a few camps or hotels. Before you pay a deposit, you want to know what each one has actually said about halal food, alcohol and prayer, and what you still need to ask.
That’s the check. You send us up to five properties. We send back one email.
What you get, for each property
- What it told us in writing about halal meat and how much notice it needs, and who supplies it.
- Alcohol: whether it is served at meals, only on request, or at a separate bar.
- Somewhere to pray, prayer mats, and whether staff know the qibla.
- Whether it has hosted Muslim guests before.
- Who told us, and when, so you can judge how fresh the answer is.
- For any property that isn’t in our guide, we say so plainly and give you the exact questions to put to it before you pay.
What it looks like
Example, from the guide: Roca River Camp (Maasai Mara). Halal meat is standard at the property, and it named Farmers Choice as its supplier. Alcohol is served at a guest’s request or preference, and the camp also has a bar. It has a tent that can be used as a prayer space, can supply a prayer mat, and its staff use an app on their phones to find the qibla. It has hosted Muslim guests before. What this is not
We report what each property told us. We haven’t inspected kitchens, and we don’t rule on what is or isn’t halal. We’re not a booking agent, and no property pays us or is paid by us. The check is built on the same written answers as the guide.
